If there is one thing every SEO analyst dreads, it’s Google Algorithm Updates. No wonder, because an update demands a complete revamp of an SEO’s action plan. He needs to now think of ways to incorporate these changes and at the same time aim to rank the websites higher. For a genuine SEO specialist this is however not a troublesome matter. Instead, it sets his path clear.

What’s the new bolt from the blue?

Earlier this year Google launched an algorithm update making mobile responsiveness of websites a must for higher Google ranking. Now with another one in the offing, SEOs around the world are all perked up.

Few rumblings here and there have informed us that the new Google algorithm update has got something to do with doorway pages. For those of you who are unaware of this terminology, doorway pages are those pages created solely to direct visitors repeatedly to the same page or destination. The purpose behind is to maximize search footprint of that particular website by ranking multiple pages in the search results.

How would you feel when you click on one link, lands on a page you didn’t like, shifts to another link and again lands up in the same page? Frustrated, isn’t it? So is Google. The new update is sure to hunt down these doorway pages. Once the update is out, there will be no more content duplication and bluffing the viewers.

Google’s Brian White says:

“Over time, we’ve seen sites try to maximize their “search footprint” without adding clear, unique value…To improve the quality of search results for our users, we’ll soon launch a ranking adjustment to better address these types of pages. Sites with large and well-established doorway campaigns might see a broad impact from this change.”

Black hat SEOs, this is your warning sign. White hats and Content Marketers, you have reasons to celebrate! With doorway pages banned, quality content gets a firm footing. It will no longer be about the number of links you have, but the content inside the links. Is it unique? Does it add value to your page? If not, it’s time to keep a check. Pages created solely for search engines & harming a viewer’s search experience will die down with the new update.

So, before you get caught in the whirlwind, take down all doorway pages and duplicate content. Make sure you employ white hat SEO techniques. If you are wondering how, learn all you need to know about it from one of our earlier blogs – Seo Today and Tomorrow
